Winnipeg police chief responds to funding for illegal firearms intervention, violent crime prosecution

Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth responded to Manitoba’s funding announcement to create 10 positions to support the prosecution of violent, weapons-related crimes on Tuesday. Smyth said that the announcement is welcome news as officers continue to encounter re-offenders in the community who are on bail. Smyth added that the expertise will also help as complexities emerge in the territory of illegal firearms.
