Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth responded to Manitoba’s funding announcement to create 10 positions to support the prosecution of violent, weapons-related crimes on Tuesday. Smyth said that the announcement is welcome news as officers continue to encounter re-offenders in the community who are on bail. Smyth added that the expertise will also help as complexities emerge in the territory of illegal firearms.
