Rodney Wells, the stepfather of Tyre Nichols, spoke Friday and called on people to protest peacefully — should they choose to — when the bodycam video of the 29-year-old’s encounter with police is released. Wells said that while he had pushed for charges of first-degree murder, he was satisfied with the decision of the second-degree murder charges that the five officers now face.
