Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy on Thursday explained the reason for the aggravated kidnapping charge handed down against five former Memphis police officers in the killing of Black motorist Tyre Nichols after a violent traffic stop on Jan. 7. “If it was a lawful detention to begin with, it certainly became unlawful at a certain point,” he said.
