B.C. mom loses appeal that smudging ceremony in school did not violate religious freedom

A B.C. Court of Appeal has upheld a decision that a smudging ceremony, hoop dance and prayer hosted in two Port Alberni classrooms seven years ago did not breach the religious freedoms of a mother whose children attended. The court dismissed the mother’s appeal on Dec. 12, 2022.
