Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was the final witness to testify at the Emergencies Act inquiry, as he vigorously defended his government’s decision to invoke the act to end protests from the so-called ‘Freedom Convoy.’ Trudeau’s reasoning for using the measure for the first time in the 34-year history of the law. Alberta’s provincial government introduced regulations prohibiting its schools from enforcing mask mandates, while simultaneously promising parents “guaranteed” access to in-person learning for students.
