NDP MP Blake Desjarlais accused the Liberal government of “covering” for Loblaws during Question Period on Tuesday after the union representing more than 500 workers at the company’s distribution centre in Calgary said its members were served layoff notices on Monday. Andy Fillmore, parliamentary secretary for industry, science and industry said the ministry had contacted the Competition Bureau earlier in the year “to make sure it was using all of its tools to detect and deter unlawful behaviours in the food sector.”
