Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised global efforts to curb the spread and impact of COVID-19, saying that the international community has “come a long way.” 9,400 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported to the WHO last week, 90% less than in February of 2022 when weekly deaths topped 75,000.
