Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem responded to criticisms of the central bank as it introduced another interest rate hike on Wednesday, increasing its key lending rate by half a percentage point to 3.75 per cent. “The independence of the central bank becomes more important when the decisions are difficult,” he said.
