Canada temporarily extends international student work permits to address labour shortage

Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Sean Fraser announced on Friday that amid the country’s labour shortage, changes will be made for international students studying in Canada to help address the gap. He said beginning Nov. 15 until the end of 2023, the government is lifting the 20-hour-work-limit per week cap for eligible students to work off-campus while studying, which affects more than 500,000 students already in the country. “This change is going to help sustain Canada’s pandemic growth and provide a boost to thousands of employers looking to add to their staff for the upcoming holiday season,” Fraser said.
