U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that he has approved Florida’s request for a major disaster declaration after the state was pummeled by hurricane Ian on Wednesday, before being downgraded to a tropical storm. He said the federal government would cover 100 per cent of the cost to clear debris and any costs incurred during efforts to “save lives.”
