Sherri Papini, a 40-year-old mother from northern California, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Tuesday for faking her own kidnapping and misleading police. She went missing in 2016 and turned up three weeks later claiming two Hispanic women had kidnapped and tortured her, when in fact the FBI discovered she had been staying with an ex-boyfriend during the period she was supposedly detained. Her defence attorney said after sentencing that it was “fair,” but it was longer than they had wished.
