Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien are already making their way back to Middle Earth after Amazon’s new Lord of the Rings series debuted on its streaming service Thursday night. It’s being called the most expensive show in TV history with each episode costing nearly $60 million. As Mike Armstrong explains, it’s a major offensive in the streaming wars that may have more to do with the company’s retail business.
