Norway euthanizes Freya, a celebrity walrus that captured hearts

A beloved walrus known as “Freya,” frequently seen in a harbour in Oslo, Norway, was euthanized on Sunday over what Norwegian officials call “safety concerns.” Freya, a 600-kilogram walrus named after the Norse goddess of love and beauty, became a social media star this summer after being repeatedly sighted around Oslo’s harbour.
