New York State Police identified the suspect in the stabbing attack of author Salman Rushdie in a news conference on Friday, saying that 24-year-old Hadi Matar was now in police custody. Police also gave an update of Rushdie’s condition, saying he had been stabbed at least once in the neck and the abdomen. He was taken to hospital and as of 5 p.m. was still undergoing surgery. A motive is not yet known at this time.
