After declaring monkeypox a global health emergency of international concern on Saturday, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday that “this is an outbreak that can be stopped.” He added that precautions can be taken including reducing the risk of exposure and telling men who have sex with other men to reduce their number of sexual partners. Tedros adds that about 98 per cent of the over 18,000 cases reported to the WHO are from this grouping.
