Thousands rise in applause for Pope Francis’ ‘enormous, personal effort’ during Holy Mass in Edmonton

As Pope Francis began to conclude Holy Mass at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium on Tuesday, the crowd in attendance rose to their feet in applause as Richard Smith, the Archbishop of Edmonton, praised the Holy Father’s “enormous, personal effort” to travel to Canada to apologize for the Catholic Church’s role in the residential school’s tragedy.
