Responding to a question about the U.S. gas tax holiday during a press briefing on Wednesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the proposal by saying that it is important for the government to act during summer due to it being the busiest period for family travel. “It’s a simple, straightforward way to deal with an issue that’s really hurting families at the gas pump,” Jean-Pierre said. “This is real for many people, this is very real for everyday Americans.”
