WHO Director General re-elected for five more years: ‘Luck brought me all the way here’

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) members re-elected Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as Director-General by a strong majority of votes for another five years on Tuesday. The vote by secret ballot at the annual meeting of the World Health Assembly was seen as a formality since Tedros, a former health minister from Ethiopia who has headed the UN agency throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, was the only candidate running.
