Andy Seale, an advisor with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) HIV, Hepatitis and STIs Programme, said during a Q&A on Monday that although monkeypox appears to be being transmitted among men who identify as gay or bisexual, “this is not a gay disease.” Sexual contact is not needed to spread the monkeypox virus, Seale said, adding that “close personal contact is sufficient.”
