Russia-Ukraine conflict: Target of sanctions is ‘not to hurt Russian people,’ says Psaki

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Wednesday that the target of economic sanctions launched by the U.S. and other Western countries is “not to hurt the Russian people,” but to “squeeze” Russian President Vladimir Putin and his leadership team. “There have to be consequences,” she said of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
