Tor Oiamo, a leading noise researcher in Canada, says prolonged exposure to noise pollution can lead to hypertension, heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Traffic is the biggest source of noise pollution, and Oiamo says cities can be designed to be less oriented around cars, and thus, less noisy.
