People in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second biggest city, took shelter from expected Russian air strikes in a metro station on Thursday. People gathered below ground in the metro station with luggage, children and pets after Moscow mounted a mass assault by land, sea and air in the biggest attack on a European state since World War Two.
