Isabelle Jacques, the Assistant Deputy Minister, Financial Sector Policy Branch at the Department of Finance, said Tuesday during a finance committee meeting on the trucker protests that she wasn’t aware of any situation that banks would notify an account holder prior to their account being frozen under the Emergencies Act. Conservative MP Adam Chambers argued that not notifying a bank client prior to freezing an account is a violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
