Black, Indigenous people disproportionately affected by use of force in Canada’s correctional facilities: report

Correctional Investigator of Canada Dr. Ivan Zinger said on Thursday that a report from his department found that racial bias is one of reasons behind disproportionate application of force towards Black, Indigenous people and people of colour in Canada’s correctional facilities. Investigator Leticia Gutierrez detailed the report, saying Black, Indigenous and people of colour accounted for nearly 60 per cent of all individuals impacted by use of force incidents in correctional facilities across Canada.
