U.S. President Joe Biden on Thursday formally announced the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, calling it “bittersweet” due to having know Breyer for several decades. He also said he would nominate someone who upholds the values Breyer held, while also noting his nomination would be the first Black woman to take a seat on the country’s highest court.
