U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price said on Tuesday that Russia’s designation of imprisoned opposition figure Alexei Navalny and eight of his allies as “extremists and terrorists” is disturbing. He described the move as a “new low” in Russia’s crackdown in civil society and urged Russian authorities to unconditionally release him.
