British Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced on Nov. 4 that the U.K. had become “the first country in the world” to approve an antiviral pill for the treatment of COVID-19. Javid said the drug, molnupiravir, had been approved following a “rigorous assessment” by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
