Hyperthermia and probable dehydration was determined as the cause of death of a Northern California family who was found dead on a hiking trail near the Merced River, police said Thursday. According to authorities, the family overheated and ran out of drinking water on a sunny August afternoon when temperatures reached up to 43 C in steep mountain terrain.
