NDP MP Charlie Angus on Monday proposed that rather than empowering the CRTC to monitor social media companies and hold them to account, a new position should be created that answers to Parliament. Angus suggested that an officer of parliament on digital rights and technology should be created, with powers akin to the Canadian Privacy Commissioner.
