Hollywood films crews to strike next week unless deal reached with producers

President of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFLCIO) Liz Shuler said on Wednesday that if no agreement is reached with film and TV producers by 12:01 a.m. PDT on Oct. 18, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) which represents some 60,000 off-screen workers, including camera operators and make-up artists, will launch a work stoppage threatening to devastate major studios. The union wants to reduce working hours that can stretch to about 14 hours a day as the demand for TV shows and films has increased, particularly for streaming platforms such as Netflix , Disney+ , Apple TV+ and Amazon Video.
