United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Monday during an event in Geneva that more than $1 billion in aid was pledged by international donors for Afghanistan’s most pressing needs, but that it was “impossible” to know how much was specifically for an emergency appeal. The UN was seeking $606 million to help millions of people in Afghanistan until the end of the year.
