Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Friday that Canada shares the U.S. position of opposing a recognition of a government that’s imposed by force in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of many regions after the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country. Freeland added the government’s top priority remains to support Canadians who are on the ground and to support Afghans who helped the government.
