Canada’s Foreign Minister Marc Garneau said on Wednesday that Canada strongly condemns the sentencing of Canadian Michael Spavor to 11 years in prison for espionage in a court in China on Wednesday, and called it an arbitrary detention. He also said that he’s been in touch with allies on this matter and that Canada has notified nations who endorsed the declaration against arbitrary detention of this development.
