Mary Simon was sworn in as Canada’s 30th governor general and as the 1st Indigenous person to hold the role on Monday. She offered her “heartful gratitude” to the Queen while also thanking her family for their support. Simon said she was “honoured” to take on the role of “Commander and Chief of Canada.”
