The balance of power in the labour market has tilted in favour of employees. Restauranteurs say hiring is their biggest challenge this season. Labour shortages in the highly competitive retail sector were common pre-COVID, they’ve become even worse especially in Ontario where stores were shut down longer than other parts of the country.
