Winnipeg police to investigate after protesters topple statue of Queen Victoria on Canada Day

Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth said on Friday that there will be an investigation after a statue of Queen Victoria that was on the front lawn of the Manitoba Legislative Building was toppled off its base by protesters Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred amid outrage over the recent discoveries of unmarked graves at the sites of former residential schools.
