U.K.’s full reopening plan could be jeopardized by B.1.617.2 COVID-19 variant, health minister says

British Health Minister Matt Hancock said on Thursday that the B.1.617.2 COVID-19 variant, which was first found in India, is spreading across the U.K. and it is too soon to say whether restrictions can be fully lifted on June 21. “We will only do that if it’s safe. We will make a formal assessment, ahead of the 14th of June, as to what step we can take on the 21st,” he stated.
