New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said during an event on Tuesday commemorating the first anniversary of the killing of George Floyd that passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act into law is “the least” to be done to honour him. Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, died after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyd’s neck for over 8 minutes.
