Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Howard Njoo said on Thursday that all Canadians who wish to receive a second dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine will be able to, following many provinces pausing first doses of this vaccine due to concerns with blood clots. He also said there’s a possibility that mixing vaccine types might lead to a greater immune response, but clinical trials in the U.K. are currently examining this. Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin also provided an update on Canada’s upcoming vaccine shipments and supply.
