India reports more than 4,000 COVID-19 deaths as calls mount for nationwide lockdown

India’s COVID-19 deaths rose by more than 4,000 for a second consecutive day on Sunday, as calls for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impose a nationwide lockdown mounted. The country’s health ministry reported 4,092 fatalities in the past 24 hours, while cases rose by 403,738.
