On the 10th day of ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s murder trial on Friday, forensic pathologist Dr. Lindsey Thomas testified in court. According to her testimony, she believes George Floyd died of “asphyxia or low oxygen” and added the “subdual, restraint and compression” of law enforcement of Floyd was “ultimately” the immediate cause of death. Thomas also said Floyd’s “secondary mechanism [of death] is this physiologic stress, but ultimately the cause of death is the subdual, restraint and compression,” when he was pinned down by Chauvin, knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
