Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Sunday that a controlled release was necessary amid fears a wastewater pond could fail causing a “catastrophic flood situation.” After introducing a state of emergency, the governor assured residents that the wastewater is “not radioactive” but is primarily saltwater from a nearby dredge project.
