COVID-19: Canada’s deputy public health officer lists symptoms of VIPIT

Canada’s deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo on Monday said that amid reports of rare blood clots associated with low platelet counts, those who were vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine after than 20 days do not need to be concerned, but those who have less than 20 days ago or anyone vaccinated going forward should seek medical attention should they experience symptoms starting four days or more after vaccination. He said the symptoms of Vaccine-Induced Prothrombotic Immune Thrombocytopenia (VIPIT) include shortness of breath, chest pain, leg swelling, persistent abdominal pain, sudden onset of severe or persistent worsening headaches, blurred vision or skin bruising not at the site of vaccination.
