Attorney Ben Crump, representing the family of George Floyd, said on Monday that the trial of Derek Chauvin, a former police officer who has been charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Floyd, will be a referendum on “how far America has come in its quest for equality and justice for all.” Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minn. after officers were seen kneeling on his neck and back for an extended period during an arrest.
