The European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Monday said that following a meeting of EU foreign ministers, they had decided to impose sanctions on four Chinese officials for human rights abuses in Xinjiang. China later published a statement on its website announcing retaliatory sanctions on European lawmakers.
