China says it ‘fully’ safeguards rights of ‘2 Michaels’ after report that trial will come soon

China said it “fully” safeguards the civil liberties and legal rights of Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig on Friday after state media outlet, the Global Times, reported the two detained Canadians will “soon” stand trial. When asked to confirm the report, foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told reporters he did not have any specific information to provide.
