On Tuesday United States senators held their first hearing to discuss what led up to the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and what can be done to prevent it from ever happening again. Acting Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee told the committee he was “stunned” by the initial delay and reluctance on the part of the Pentagon to deploy the National Guard in assistance of Capitol police.
