Mike Ryan, head of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) emergencies programme, said on Wednesday that countries reporting COVID-19 variants shouldn’t be punished, “because we don’t know in countries that haven’t been looking and reporting whether those variants or other variants are there.” Ryan also praised colleagues in South Africa, Brazil, the U.K. and Denmark for providing “vitally important information.”
