Firecrackers went off and prayers were held at Thulasendrapuram, the ancestral village of U.S. vice-president-elect Kamala Harris on Sunday, after she made history by becoming the first Black and first South Asian woman to win the second-highest U.S. office. Plus, Harris’ maternal Indian uncle said on Sunday he was sure of her election victory. Gopalan Balachandran, who lives in south Delhi, was elated by her win and said he would attend her swearing-in ceremony.
