Oscar-nominated director Evgeny Afineevsky said on Wednesday that comments made by Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, about same-sex civil unions during the documentary “Francesco” had not been made in order to change the doctrine of the church, rather the pope was saying “people should not be discriminated and the gay community should have equal rights like everybody else.”
